Controlled Environments & Biosafety Laboratories
Scope confirmed on enquiry
We support the planning and setup of biosafety laboratories for BSL-1, BSL-2 and BSL-3 requirements, bringing together facility considerations, controlled environments, biosafety cabinets and related laboratory equipment. The scope is developed around the intended activities, biological risks and operational requirements.
Biosafety Levels 1–3
These are laboratory setup capabilities. Project scope is agreed following assessment of the intended activities, biological risks and operational requirements. Installing equipment on its own does not establish a biosafety level.
BSL-1 laboratory setup
Facilities and equipment for basic laboratory activities requiring standard microbiological practices. Project scope is agreed following assessment of the intended work.
BSL-2 laboratory setup
Facilities, equipment and containment arrangements for work requiring additional access controls and protective measures. Project scope is agreed following assessment.
BSL-3 laboratory setup
Specialist containment facilities requiring coordinated planning of the laboratory environment, engineering systems, equipment and operating requirements.
A biosafety laboratory is planned around the intended activities, the biological risks those activities present, and the operating requirements of the facility. Laboratory planning, facility layout, containment requirements, ventilation and airflow, biosafety cabinets, supporting equipment, commissioning and documentation are considered together. The quotation states which of those elements are included.
MTS Lab provides biosafety cabinets and supporting airflow equipment, related laboratory equipment, installation of nominated equipment, maintenance, calibration, particle testing, airflow assessment, and validation or qualification of nominated equipment and rooms where those activities form part of the agreed scope. Commissioning records and documentation are issued for the work performed.
Civil and building works, architectural design of the facility, whole-building HVAC plant, and regulatory or biosafety licensing are confirmed during enquiry and may involve specialist project partners agreed with the client. The quotation states which activities MTS Lab will perform directly.
Laboratory biosafety levels (Biosafety Levels 1–3) describe the facility and operating requirements for the intended work. Where a biosafety cabinet forms part of the agreed scope, the cabinet class is specified separately. A laboratory biosafety level is not equivalent to a biosafety cabinet class.
Supply, installation, maintenance, calibration, testing, validation and qualification are distinct activities. The quotation states which of those activities are included. Existing clean-environment particle counting remains available as a related service. Routine maintenance or an airflow measurement is not presented as comprehensive biosafety certification.
What we can discuss
- BSL-1, BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory setup, with project scope agreed following assessment
- Laboratory planning, facility layout, containment, ventilation and airflow, biosafety cabinets and supporting equipment
- Installation, maintenance, calibration, airflow assessment, environmental testing, validation and qualification where included in the agreed scope
- Commissioning records and documentation for the work performed
Project scope is agreed following assessment of the intended activities, biological risks and operational requirements. Equipment brands, models, biosafety cabinet classes, cleanroom grades and performance guarantees are confirmed only where they form part of the agreed scope. Capability is confirmed on enquiry.
